Does Tiller Have an App?

While Tiller does not currently offer a dedicated smartphone app, there are several easy ways to view and edit your Tiller-powered spreadsheets on the go.

While Tiller does not currently offer a dedicated smartphone app, there are several easy ways to view and edit your Tiller-powered spreadsheets on the go.

Dedicated (and free) spreadsheet apps for mobile

Microsoft and Google offer free, officially-supported spreadsheet apps for both iOS and Android. While these apps offer a surprising number of desktop features, complicated spreadsheets can still be frustrating to on mobile.

Microsoft Excel mobile apps

Create, view, edit, and share your Excel files on your smartphone. Run data analysis on the go. Collaborate with others and email your spreadsheets. Jump-start your budget, task list, accounting, or financial analysis with Excel’s mobile templates.

Mobile App for Tiller with AppSheet

design 3

AppSheet is Google’s no-code development platform for making custom mobile and web apps without the need for extensive coding experience. It’s a popular tool for creating mobile apps from Google Sheets data.

A member of the Tiller Community created a mobile app for Tiller with AppSheet and shared his experience here.

You can view your sheets and make edits within the sheet, such as categorizing transactions. At this time there is not a way to fill your sheet with the latest data or run AutoCat from a mobile phone. The Tiller Money Feeds add-on cannot be launched using the gSheets or Excel mobile apps.

Tiller Community Solutions for using Tiller on the go

Using Tiller on mobile is a popular topic in the Tiller Community. Several people have offered their mobile workflows:

Mobile App for Tiller Budget Template by Richard Peng

Richard won a Tiller Community challenge with his Mobile App for Tiller Budget Template.

When asked about the goal of his workflow, he wrote:

“I want to make it easy to make informed spending decisions when I’m out and about. I also want to perform frequent tasks like categorizing transactions and tracking my cash spending without having to be at my computer or use the clunky Google Sheets app.”

Mobile-Optimized Budget Tracking Spreadsheet by David Royall

Tiller Community member dhensonroyall created a mobile-optimized budget tracking spreadsheet. When asked about the goal of his workflow, he wrote:

“My goal was to take the Tiller Foundation Template and optimize to manage completely on a phone, as well as add in a search function. With this Mobile-Optimized Budget Tracker, you can easily:

  • Find and categorize any new or uncategorized transactions
    • View insights into your net worth, monthly budget, spending, and income
  • See your full monthly budget
  • Search for specific transactions, filtering by category, vendor, date, and/or amount

You still get access to the full desktop-optimized tabs of the Foundation Template, but the controls have all been moved to the new mobile-optimized tabs.”

Other items of note about using Tiller on mobile

While you can access your Tiller spreadsheets from your mobile phone using the Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel app for your phone’s OS (Android or iOS), there are a few additional items to note.

First, with the apps, you can view your sheets and make edits within the sheet, such as categorizing transactions. But currently you can’t fill your sheet with the latest data or run AutoCat from a mobile phone. And the Tiller Money Feeds add-on can’t be launched using the Google Sheets or Excel apps.

Can I refresh my accounts from my phone?

You can initiate a refresh on your mobile phone from the Tiller Console at https://sheets.tillerhq.com/auth/login but you will not be able to fill the new data to your sheet using your phone.

Can I use Tiller on my iPad?

For access from an iPad we recommend using the Safari browser rather than the Google Sheets or Excel apps because you can access the add-on/add-in using the browser since it is similar enough to a computer browser.

Here is some community advice to using Tiller on an iPad.
