How to Automatically Download Bank Transactions to Excel

How to automatically download your daily bank transactions into Microsoft Excel with Tiller Money Feeds

Microsoft Excel is the most popular software in the world for analyzing financial data, budgeting, and understanding money trends. Millions of people use Excel for their personal finances daily.

However, manually uploading bank statements into Excel is slow and tedious, leading users of Excel to search of an automated solution.

For example, over on Hacker News, someone asked “Does anyone have any recommendations on ways to automatically download data from bank accounts/brokerages, etc for easy importing into spreadsheets instead of having to click around and download CSVs or whatever daily?”

The best option for auto-importing your bank statements into your workbooks is Tiller, the only personal finance service built on Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.

Indeed, Tiller is recommended by Microsoft for subscribers of Microsoft 365.

What about converting bank PDFs to CSVs?

Several tools help convert PDFs from your bank into CSV files that you can then import into Excel. Unfortunately, while these tools are undoubtedly helpful, they are not automatic.

They still require logging into your online bank account, finding the link to download your bank statements as a PDF, importing that PDF into the conversion tool, and then finally importing the CSV into your workbook. You will also likely need to clean up and reformat the data.

Even simply importing a bank CSV into Excel is a pain. Once again, you need to manually log into your bank account, export the CSV files, import the CSV file into Excel, and clean and format your data before you can even use it.

You’ll need to do this account by account, month after month, over and over again.
